Combating the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistant infectious diseases in Vietnam

Initiative to help Binh Duong recover and develop socio-economic after COVID-19

On 1st of December, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics in collaboration with the Binh Duong Provincial Party Committee held a webinar about the topic “Safe and flexible adaptation for Binh Duong province’s socio-economic recovery and development”. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang – Politburo member, Director of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council hosted the workshop at Ho Chi Minh City with a lot of experts and scientists attending. At Binh Duong, there were Mr. Nguyen Van Loi – Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial Delegation of the National Assembly; Mr. Vo Van Minh – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee together with leaders of departments, agencies, localities and representatives of associations and businesses in the province.

At the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Thu Anh – Director of Woolcock Medical Research Institute, University of Sydney, Australia, said that Binh Duong needs to focus on correct injections of vaccines and give priority to those aged from 50 and older, to the group with underlying disease; at the same time, booster injections and technology transfer of vaccines and pharmaceuticals should be planned ahead. In treatment, the process is requested to be simple to build, easy to implement on a large scale; prepare enough equipment, drugs, biological products, testing capacity, medical finance and need a tracking tool to connect this system. Besides, it is necessary to improve the capacity of grassroots health care, especially in communes, wards and townships with a large number of workers; have recruitment policies to attract good medical staff to the facility. 

As for the backup solution of the new variant, the delegates suggested that Binh Duong need to continuously update the situation of the Omicron variant to prepare a response scenario; at the same time, build a network of facilities that are capable and flexible in operation, and to improve people’s self-rescue capacity.
